This interactive session aims to demystify these terms and encourages you to consider your part in fostering a healthy, safe, accountable, and inclusive work environment.

Elizabeth (Liz) Duret, CPHR, is an experienced professional dedicated to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). With over two decades in human resources and consulting, Liz specializes in Indigenous engagement, anti-racism education, and broader EDI strategies. She has been an integral part of the University of Saskatchewan since April 2015, serving as an Inclusion & Diversity Consultant and leading anti-racism initiatives. In 2019, Liz was a TEDx speaker at the university, where her talk “Diversity: It is an Inside Job” showcased her commitment to impactful EDI practices. Additionally, Liz runs her consulting firm, further amplifying her influence in the field. Proud of her Métis heritage, she remains actively involved in her Saskatoon community, balancing her professional endeavours with a fulfilling family life with her two sons and a rescue dog.

what you really want and how to accomplish more with less stress, while emphasizing that the

Angela Jamieson worked as an engineer in Calgary, the Netherlands, and Brunei before returning home to Saskatoon to raise her family. She is now an entrepreneur, writer, speaker and publisher, besides being a wife and mother of three. “Relaxed Productivity” is an online course she has developed to help people focus on what’s really important in life using personal stories and science-based evidence.

What if sustainability is more than the sum of the environmental and economic impacts of human activities?  Advancing sustainability requires us to design social practices and collaborations that nurture a culture of innovation, inclusion, and empowerment. Drawing on our experiences at the University of Saskatchewan in research and action in sustainability, we will explore the possibilities of designing a sustainable future through cultural change across three two domains:

Innovating the governance, structures, and routines across operations

Empowering the next generation of sustainability change makers through professional, relational, and intercultural skill building

Our focus on these domains is intended to inspire and provoke your own thinking about new pathways for collaboration to advance sustainability within the organizations and sector in which you are situated.

Maureen Reed, PhD, is a Professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability and UNESCO Co-Chair in Biocultural Diversity, Sustainability, Reconciliation, and Renewal at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research encompasses governance for sustainability, biocultural diversity, and gender diversity in environmental sectors. She has authored significant publications, including UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and studies on climate hazards and community sustainability.

As the University of Saskatchewan’s first Chief Sustainability Officer, Janelle Hutchinson, MA, BE, BSc, leads the Sustainability Strategy 2021 - 2030, collaborating with key stakeholders on academic, research, and operational initiatives. She manages institutional sustainability efforts, reporting, governance, policies, and external representation.

She will share her best tools and strategies so you will feel empowered and motivated to use your voice in meetings, while networking, in front of groups, or wherever you want to be heard.

Heather Morrison is a public speaking coach, award-winning theatre artist, and broadcaster from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She has worked as backfill radio host for CBC and as a sideline reporter for different sports platforms, including national coverage on TSN. She is the founder and president of Deliver Your Best Coaching where her signature program transforms even the most nervous people into confident and authentic speakers. She has more than 100,000 followers on her Instagram page (@deliver.your.best) where she teaches people about public speaking and attracts clients from all over the world.

Linda Allen-Hardisty is the coach leaders engage to enhance their success serving as their executive coach and leadership team coach. She is a Master Certified Executive (MCC), writes articles for Forbes Coaches Council, and is a leadership program facilitator at Queens University IRC. Nominated by her clients, she is a Top 10 Coaching/ Leadership Development Company in Canada 2022.

This workshop will help you to hone your emotional skills to gain self-awareness and confidence, and to enhance your skills to promote strong interpersonal relationships.

Hayley Hesseln, PhD, CEC, is the co-founder of eiADVANTAGE, offering coaching in emotional intelligence. An economist and Department Head at the University of Saskatchewan, she collaborates with students and indigenous communities in the Circumpolar North. A Certified Master Trainer in Emotional Intelligence and a member of the International Coaching Federation, Hayley received the University of Saskatchewan’s Master Teacher Award in 2017 and the Medal of Bravery from the Governor General of Canada.

Janice Gair, PCC, CPHR, President. Janice brings over two decades of experience in governance, corporate strategy, and organizational development. Her passion for capacity building in individuals and organizations led her to become an accredited executive coach. She has achieved the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation through the International Coaching Federation. Janice is co-founder and president of EI ADVANTAGE. Together with her business partner based in Saskatoon, they provide individual and team coaching, training, emotional intelligence certification, and conduct research, evaluation, and publishing in the field of coaching and emotional intelligence. Their company is quickly becoming positioned as a leader in the emotional intelligence training space for online courses, virtual and in-person delivery.

From Global to Local: BHP’s Gender Diversity Journey 

This presentation explores the journey of gender diversity within BHP's global operations, particularly emphasizing its relevance to the mining industry. Focused on the specific context of BHP's potash business in Canada, the discussion delves into strategies for integrating gender balance with the unique demands of mining. 

Sekai Musoki, a Civil Engineer and Construction Principal at BHP's Jansen Mine Site, grew up in a Zimbabwean mining town. Overcoming race, gender, and immigration barriers in Canada, BHP’s gender balance initiatives brought her back to mining. She volunteers with WIM Canada and WIM/WIN-SK. Sekai received a nomination for a YWCA Women of Distinction award for her work in advancing women in the trades.

Stefanie Orihuela, originally from Peru, is a Mining Engineer with a Master’s degree in Business. She started working at BHP as a graduate in 2009 and has since held roles in Chile, USA, and Canada in areas such as Operational Readiness, Business Planning, and Planning & Tech. She actively volunteers at ERGs and Community Projects to encourage a more inclusive and fair culture at work and in society.
