Merin will speak on “Freedom to Innovate: Igniting your Spark”

What if you knew your best before date? Would you live differently? Merin’s core message is all about embracing your inner confidence. Knowing the things that give you that “Hell Ya!” response and bringing clarity to decision making at work AND at home.

Merin Coutts’ career path came with a steep incline at a young age. She is no stranger to male dominated fields, leadership, and the challenges of reverse ageism. Merin tapped into the power of confidence, aligned with a strong sense of personal values and vision, at an early age. She shares her passion for inspiring clarity so women can live and lead with confidence.

 Brett Elmgren of Axom Leadership will be presenting on “Creating a psychologically safe workplace through inclusive leadership”

This highly engaging session will focus on the topic of “Psychological Safety”, and how we can all demonstrate leadership actions and behaviours to enhance a culture of inclusion and belonging at work. Participants will learn what Psychological Safety is, how to enhance psychological safety in their workplace, and the specific leadership behaviours that create a culture of inclusion and belonging. Through storytelling, humor and supplemented with modern data on organizational performance, participants will leave the session motivated to apply what they have learned. This uplifting and empowering session will leave participants hopeful that building healthier and more inclusive work environments is not only possible, but directly within our control. 

Brett Elmgren is an Executive Human Resources professional and the President of Axom Leadership Inc. His work focuses on aligning people and culture with business strategy. Brett Elmgren is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources with 15 years of professional HR experience leading Talent Management teams for Nutrien, PotashCorp, Cameco and Federated Coop.

Joanne Doyle leads Deloitte Canada’s Transformational Change in Mining and Metals and Deloitte Global Mining Community of Practice. Joanne will be presenting on “Unleashing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Potential”

Joanne has over 12 years consulting experience, focusing on the Energy and Resources sector. She designed, developed, and implemented digital engagement solutions to drive diversity and inclusion across the organization. Joanne has led several projects across multiple geographies, where she led programs to enable technology transformations, drive behavioral change and adoption. She is skilled at engaging with large-scale blue-collar organizations and worked with both internal and community stakeholders to drive shared vision.

Jenny Hoffman will have an interactive presentation on Ethics in Practice.
In this interactive business ethics session, you will work through some common ethical challenges or dilemmas by practicing your ethical reasoning skills in different contexts and situations. The session will include a discussion about the role that ethics plays in business and different approaches to ethical decision making. You will also be provided with some simple and practical tools that can be applied to ethical questions in a variety of contexts.

Jenny is a corporate lawyer at Cameco Corporation whose work focuses on governance, compliance, and ethics. In her current role, Jenny is responsible for overseeing governance and advises on ethics related matters.

Lindsay Katz will be presenting on “Your Mental Health Matters”
With an emphasis on tools to support individual wellness, this workshop will explore psychological safety in the workplace. Participants will learn how to recognize signs a person may have declining mental health and well-being, explore how to initiate conversations around mental wellness, bust stigma, and identify available supports. The workshop will also address the need for self-care and identify strategies that support personal metal wellbeing.

Lindsay Katz is a mental health specialist committed to building competent, resilient individuals, organizations, and communities in mental health and wellness. Through mental health education and training she empowers individuals to become strong advocates and supports within their communities and workplace.

Jocelyn Peltier-Huntley will be leading a workshop on “Awareness to Action: Managing Biases and Microaggressions”.

This short presentation will give an overview of terms and tips for recognizing and addressing commonly occurring instances of bias and microaggressions. An interactive break-out session will engage participants to work in small groups where participants will discuss strategies to react and address instances of bias and microaggressions. The workshop will demonstrate how tools from free public sources like the Micropedia of Microaggressions and LeanIn.org’s 50 Ways to Fight Bias can be used to spark group discussion.

Malvina Rapko with Cultural Bridges Inc. will be presenting on “Cultural Intelligence”
Malvina has been working and volunteering in the field of intercultural relations and communication for over twenty years. She has a B.A. in International Studies, is a certified Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and Unconscious Bias Facilitator and holds a certificate in Emotions-Centered coaching. She is also in the process of receiving a certification in IntelliCulture Cross-Cultural Adaptation.

She has worked extensively in international education and newcomer settlement. Her roles have included Recruitment Manager and Homestay Coordinator, Newcomer Settlement Worker, Programming Coordinator for the Humanitarian Issues Program, and International Campaign Educator.
