SSR Mining – Seabee Gold Operation (SGO) is hiring for an Exploration Geologist.
About Your New Role:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Exploration, the Exploration Geologist is part of SSR’s multi-commodity exploration programs within Canada and collaborates with other departments of the company. The Exploration Geologist plays an important role in geological practices such as supervising, planning, logging, sampling, mapping, 3D implicit modelling, interpretations of the models, compliance with SSR’s best practices (including highest HSEC standards), QA/QC, reporting, and presenting.
Your Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise and aid in the planning and safe execution of exploration drilling and field programs, both based out of the SGO camp and remote exploration camps.
· Supervise a diverse team of people as part of the exploration programs, including geologists, core technicians, summer students, diamond drillers, geophysicists, helicopter pilots, camp managers, cooks, and more.
· Describe and sample diamond drill core.
· Geological mapping and field sampling of various types.
· Verify that the QA/QC is properly respected in the sampling process, drilling, geotechnical work, or any other activity.
· Interpret assay results and produce/interpret exploration models.
· Assist the monthly global exploration meetings and daily/weekly safety meetings.
· Assist with the exploration permitting and reporting process.
· Logistical and administrative tasks as necessary to support exploration programs.
Your Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong ability to communicate effectively both oral and written.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of geological software: Leapfrog Geo, MX Deposit, and ArcGIS.
- Experience in mineral exploration practices including sampling, geological mapping, and core logging.
- Knowledge of ore deposits with a specific focus on the various styles of gold mineralization, including orogenic gold, epithermal, and VMS.
Your Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
· Master’s degree in Geology is considered an asset.
· Experience in mineral exploration or other types of geology fieldwork. Various levels of experience will be considered, and the role will be adjusted accordingly.
- Home base Canada, with preference towards Saskatchewan residents or those willing to relocate to Saskatchewan.
About Our Working Conditions:
This position has a dynamic schedule based on the seasonality of exploration programs. Exploration programs are typically focused during the winter and summer months but occasionally may operate in the spring and fall.
· During active exploration programs, the position has a schedule of two weeks on-site followed by two weeks off-site. The two weeks on-site involve 11-hour workdays, whereas the two weeks off-site involve minimal work hours while staying updated on program progress. Occasional flexibility may be required to do shorter or longer on-site shifts up to a maximum of four weeks.
· During downtime between exploration programs, the position has a Monday to Friday schedule involving 8-hour workdays based at home or the Saskatoon office.
The Seabee Gold Operation and other exploration camps are remote with fly in fly out access. Pickup points are in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and La Ronge.
