About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

Purpose

The Shaft Operations Planner is responsible for safe, strategic planning and scheduling of Mine Hoists and Headframes operations/activities at the Jansen site to support underground work packages, personnel/material travel, and ore hoisting with the goal to maximize the utilization of the hoists.  

The Shaft Operations Planner will also help develop new procedures and standards to ensure the area can achieve optimal safety and performance. They will work closely with the maintenance team and site contractors to deliver an optimized schedule ensuring excavated material is hoisted and people and construction materials are safely transported.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Work with an integrated team to assist in developing standard operating procedures and processes for the Jansen site Mine Hoists/Shafts and Headframe operational tasks
  • Build and maintain a plan/schedule for lowering of equipment, materials and hoisting raw ore and personnel as safe and efficient as possible
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Construction and Area Managers to understand the project schedules and ensure lowering/raising schedules are complete and prioritized to achieve safe and timely project execution
  • Assist in managing the logistics of equipment on surface or underground that need to be lowered/hoisted.
  • Source and procure any materials required for the area outside of Scope of Work contracts
  • Identify best utilization of the Hoisting activity time when available and understand critical path priorities

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The associated work schedule will be 5 days on, followed by 2 days off.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical or electrical), similar Journeyperson trade certificate, Technical Diploma, or significant experience in Hoist/Shaft area of mining operations or maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in the potash industry is considered an asset
  • Superior interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with stakeholders across the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders such as clients, outside vendors and contractors
  • Fosters an inclusive environment for the team while grounding on Jansen core values
  • Demonstrates a high attention to detail, and thoughtfully identifies improvement opportunities within the team and department
