Purpose
The Principal Construction - Capital Optimization will lead a portfolio of scope that seeks to improve the way BHP delivers capital projects. Focused on construction methodologies, program standards, strategies and frameworks, the candidate will combine construction experience, technical expertise and a strong background in data analytics to ensure the construction process is optimized to enable safe and efficient execution.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
- Support HSE performance through pro-active leadership, apply BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Lead the development and execution of a capital optimization program, identifying improvement initiatives to increase capital efficiency and productivity
- Lead value creation through application of continuous improvement techniques to program standards and procedures
- Lead and conduct data-analytics on all aspects of construction execution, optimization and improvement projects
- Support the development of construction strategy, standards, processes, and plans for a major capital project
- Coordinate the execution of construction methodologies, strategies and plans in accordance with program\project construction systems and standards
- Plan, track the delivery of and manage a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes against performance targets
- Provide construction expertise and coordinate construction resources deployed into a study team for the development of construction related deliverables
- Provide construction expertise as input to value improvement practices such as constructability.
- Coordinate execution of risk and quality management plans to assure effective management of the project’s construction scope of work
- Liaise with day to day construction leadership resources on a project to support key outcomes
- Act as a single point of contact for the Project or Study manager for all construction deliverables and inputs
- Collaborate on the process of handover between the functions that interface with the Construction process
- Provide “point of contact” between the Construction contractor and the existing operating facilities to ensure minimal disruption to both Operations and construction activities
- Maintain a wide network of impact, integrates functions, operations and regions and solves complex challenges to drive strong functional/asset integration across BHP, to engage the capabilities of the entire organisation
- Manage contract execution and analysis to maximise operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk
- Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Prioritise work effort and resources accordingly
- Determine the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems

Work Location
Downtown, Saskatoon; 40 hours per week, parking is provided on-site. This role will require regular travel to the Jansen site.
About You
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Electrical) or Journeyperson’s Certificate (Electrical, Millwright, Construction)
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered as equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree
- Relevant engineering and construction experience in a major projects or program environment at a Contractor and EPC(m) level
- Experience at the owner level, in the Energy or Mining sector would be advantageous
- Deep functional knowledge of industry leading HSE, constructability, construction planning and construction technology practices in a multi discipline engineering and site construction environment including 3D data centric platforms
- Experience in Commissioning will be considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience in leading and executing project improvement using data-analytics, value optimization, productivity, continuous improvement processes and advance work packaging
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with stakeholders, peers, vendors, fabricators, engineering, and construction contractors
