In this role, you will take on the role of Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer for Orano’s McClean Lake tailings facility. You’ll ensure compliance with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Managements, while working under the guidance of our the Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to lead major tailings facility expansion projects. Your duties will involve overseeing contractors and consultants, coordinating site investigations, and conducting inspections and analyses. You’ll gain experience in project management, budgeting, and technical aspects of geotechnical engineering, while playing a key role in shaping the future of Orano’s operations. Responsibilities include: 

·         Help ensure Orano meets the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management

·         Supervise contractors and consultants who conduct engineering and scientific studies on Orano Canada’s behalf

·         Assist with coordinating and managing major tailings facility expansion construction projects and budgets

·         Arrange field investigations for the purposes of site characterization, installation of monitoring instrumentation, tailings and waste rock testing and characterization

·         Co-ordinate and conduct inspections/investigations, instrumentation readings, reports and other analyses to other geotechnical structures or projects

·         Support other projects as directed

·         Collaborate with internal and external audiences, including regulators, to address geotechnical concerns

·         Contribute to technical reports for a variety of audiences ranging from internal circulation to regulatory review

·         Develop a sound knowledge of the company’s operations and the technical requirements imposed by legislation and various permits and licenses

·         Stay current with geotechnical advancements that may apply to operations at Orano Canada’s sites

·         Promote and support Operational Excellence and OE Culture

·         Maintain a positive HSE culture within the company and comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedure

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·         A bachelor’s degree in civil, geological, or environmental engineering. A post-graduate degree in geotechnical engineering is considered an asset

·         Eligible to register with APEGS as an Engineer-in-Training

·         Experience in the mining and/or geotechnical consulting is considered an asset

·         Practical experience with geotechnical instrumentation

·         Practical or academic experience in geotechnical engineering design and analyses

·         Familiar with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management is considered an asset

·         Proficient technical writing skills

·         Demonstrated problem solving, planning, and organizational skills

·         Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

·         Ability to actively participate in a team environment, as well as work independently

·         Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with peers, other departments and consultants in a diverse, multi-disciplinary project team

Work Location & Schedule: 

·         Saskatoon Corporate Office.

·         Travel to McClean Lake or project sites as required (one week per month on approximate frequency)
