Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position is responsible for the following duties:

 

Responsibilities include: 

·            Act as Orano Canada’s lead authority regarding control systems and instrumentation

·            Develop and maintain control system and instrumentation technical specifications that adhere to industry standards and best practices

·            Ensure control systems and instrumentation meet technical specifications, adherence to industry and internal standards, and required regulatory and QA/QC requirements are met

·            Prepare equipment specifications and tender documents for procurement of equipment including expediting orders to facilitate installation and construction

·            Provide control system and instrumentation technical support to other Orano Canada departments as required

·            Develop and implement effective and efficient control system / instrumentation designs and design standards across various projects

·            Connect and collaborate with all Organizational groups (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Metallurgy, EH&S, IS, Process Safety Management, Asset Integrity Management) to collect requirements and refine goals to align with user needs

·            Collaborate with other disciplines and experts to conduct trade-off studies and make recommendations on the preferred option with regard to feasibility, operating and capital costs

·            Embrace and support Operational Excellence efforts and OE Culture

Indirectly reporting to the Mill Maintenance Superintendent, this position is responsible for the following with respect to operation and maintenance of industrial control systems:

·            Ownership of the Industrial Control Systems (DCS, SIS and PLC) overall strategy to leverage deployed assets and systems to enhance safety and improve operational efficiencies

·            Promote and support Operational Excellence by identifying opportunities to increase overall business efficiency and leveraging and supplementing existing and new assets

·            Management of Industrial Control System configuration standards, documentation, and work instructions

·            Management of Industrial Control System vendor support contracts, services, and maintenance

·            Analysis and management of Industrial Control System equipment / software upgrades and life cycle

·            Management of the Industrial Control System network ensuring compliance with corporate industrial network security requirements

·            Management of the Industrial Control System Alarm Management program

 

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·            Bachelor's degree in instrumentation or electrical engineering or a two (2) year diploma in a recognized instrumentation technology program

·            Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or an Engineering Licensee with APEGS

·            A minimum of 15 years of experience in control system and instrumentation analysis, design, construction and commissioning

·            Expert understanding of DeltaV hardware, software, and architecture

·            Good understanding of Network Design and Industrial Network Security

·            Good understanding of control system programming and software development

·            Working knowledge of Modicon PLC hardware, software, and architecture

·            Working knowledge of data historians (IP/21, PI, etc), relational databases (SQL, Access, etc.), industrial communication protocols, and other data systems is considered an asset

·            Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code is considered an asset

·            Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

·            Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

·            Excellent ability to analyze opinions and facts and to form recommendations for communication and approval from stakeholders throughout the company

·            Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills to coordinate efforts and meet deadlines

·            Strong innovation abilities in the areas of system efficiency, capital and operating cost optimization

·            Demonstrated ability to provide clear recommendations and to interact in a team environment, as well as work independently

·            Cooperative and collaborative with the ability to cultivate relationships with other departments and with external partners

 

Work Location & Schedule: 

·            Saskatoon office

·            Travel to Orano northern mine or project sites is required with varying durations and frequencies
