Organization Overview

Women in Mining and Women in Nuclear Saskatchewan Inc. (WIM/WiN-SK) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to inspiring, connecting, and supporting a diverse and inclusive workforce in the Saskatchewan mining and nuclear industries. Our Vision is to drive growth through parity, fostering an environment where women and underrepresented groups can thrive.

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer and strategic leader of WIM/WiNSK. The ED is responsible for guiding the organization's strategic growth, ensuring the successful execution of its mission, and maintaining financial sustainability. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors, key stakeholders, and volunteers to advance gender equality in the mining and nuclear industries through advocacy, partnerships, and organizational leadership.

The ED will provide visionary leadership, ensure operational excellence, build sustainable partnerships, and engage the organization’s community to achieve long-term strategic goals. This includes overseeing staff, volunteers, and external partnerships while ensuring that WIM/WiN-SK remains aligned with its mission and values.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision
    • Provide visionary leadership to advance WIM/WiN-SK's mission of fostering gender equality in the mining and nuclear industries.
    • Develop, implement, and drive organizational strategies in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Lead organizational growth by identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities for expansion, partnerships, and program development.
    • Act as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for WIM/WiN-SK, representing the organization to stakeholders, government bodies, and the broader community.
  •  Organizational Management & Operations
    • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring that WIM/WiN-SK’s programs and activities are aligned with the strategic objectives.
    • Manage and lead a team of one paid staff member, volunteers, and external contractors to achieve operational excellence.
    • Ensure effective internal systems and processes for the smooth functioning of the organization, including technology and data management improvements.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Fundraising & Financial Sustainability
    • Lead WIM/WiN-SK's fundraising efforts, including identifying and cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners.
    • Work with the Board and Finance Committee to develop sustainable revenue models, oversee budgeting, and ensure financial oversight and accountability.
    • Develop long-term fundraising strategies to secure diversified funding streams, including grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.
  • External Relations & Partnership Development
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, government, and community organizations to support WIM/WiN-SK’s mission.
    • Serve as the organization’s primary liaison with corporate sponsors, ensuring that all sponsorship obligations are met and that sponsors see a return on their investment.
    • Engage with external partners to promote gender equality initiatives and elevate the visibility of WIM/WiN-SK in the mining and nuclear industries.
  • Board Governance & Support
    • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to ensure strategic alignment and organizational governance.
    • Regularly report to the Board on operational performance, strategic objectives, and emerging opportunities or risks.
    • Assist the Board in the development of long-term strategies and operational goals, ensuring that WIM/WiN-SK remains mission-focused and future-ready.
  • Program Development & Volunteer Engagement
    • Oversee the development, execution, and evaluation of WIM/WiN-SK’s programs, ensuring they align with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
    • Support and engage volunteers, providing mentorship and guidance to WIM/WiN-SK’s committee chairs to ensure the success of WIM/WiN-SK’s volunteer-driven initiatives.
    • Develop and implement strategies to increase volunteer engagement and retention, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.

 

Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience, preferably within a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strategic Vision: Proven ability to develop and implement organizational strategies, with experience in leading through periods of growth and change.
  • Fundraising & Financial Management: Demonstrated success in fundraising, developing partnerships, and managing financial operations.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Strong ability to work effectively with boards, committees, volunteers, and external partners.
  • Commitment to Gender Equality: Deep understanding and passion for advancing diversity and inclusion in the workforce, especially in the mining and nuclear industries.
  • Governance Knowledge: Strong knowledge of non-profit governance, with a track record of supporting effective Board operations.

 

Expectations

  • Location: While the role is primarily virtual, the ED will need to attend in-person meetings and events, primarily in Saskatoon. Candidates outside Saskatoon should explain how they plan to fulfill this requirement.
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week.
