About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

 

Role Purpose

The Principal- Equipment Strategy (Mechanical) provides technical expertise in developing mechanical equipment strategies for mining and processing systems that deliver optimal safety/productivity outcomes at the lowest operating cost. This role will work closely with the internal and external project teams to preserve Jansen operational key value drivers.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for leading the team of consultants to complete the mechanical equipment maintenance strategies including RCM/Failure Mode Effect Criticality Analysis (FMECA) studies and 1SAP master data for the asset classes including: Underground Mine, Hoists, Mill & Non Process Infrastructure (NPI)
  • Develop and own comprehensive equipment strategy models for the systems and assets including the preventive, corrective and asset integrity tasks for the assigned portfolio 
  • Lead the migration of all equipment FMECA models into Jansen Asset Performance Management application for steady state operations
  • Work with project engineering and vendors to have equipment Operations and Maintenance manual data available on time to complete FMECA and SAP master data 
  • Collaborate with Center of Excellence equipment strategy teams to enhance the delivery of Jansen maintenance readiness scope 
  • Actively collaborate and align with other Maintenance Readiness team members to deliver a successful Equipment Maintenance Master Data 
  • Prepare standards/ guidelines and execute reliability engineering activities, carry out post execution tasks and eliminates defects to facilitate reliable and efficient maintenance operations across BHP.  
  • Optimise and govern asset/maintenance strategies to drive continuous improvement and replicate best practices across assets and equipment while optimising value for the long term  
  • Determine the underlying cause of problems and evaluate multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solve complex problems
  • Design and implement governance/assurance practices and Management of Change procedures to control value outcomes  
  • Engage the capabilities of the entire organisation  

About You

  • Post-Secondary degree in Engineering or in similar disciplines
  • Experience with development and deploying green field equipment maintenance readiness tasks.
  • Multiple years of experience with maintenance equipment strategy and master data development process preferably within the BHP environment 
  • Extensive experience in the application of workplace safety standards
  • Experience in leveraging advanced reliability engineering tools and technology e.g. GE-Asset Performance Management, Availability Work Bench, to deliver outcomes
  • Experience in contract and contractor team management, management of budgeting, cost control, continuous improvement and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) / FMECA 
  • Knowledge of asset integrity, predictive maintenance and statistical analysis. 
  • Experience in energy/resources/construction industry is an added advantage
