We are pleased welcome Courtnay Hughes, MASc. from Mining Industry Human Resources Council as our keynote speaker.
As Manager, Human Resources Research, Courtnay leads national research initiatives on the human resource challenges facing the mining sector. Her research work has focused on gender diversity and inclusion, workplace culture, education and industry partnerships, and strategic workforce planning. Courtnay holds a Masters of Applied Science from the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Courtnay is an active advisor on a number of mining industry committees and projects focused on increasing diversity and building HR capacity, and is a national expert on gender diversity in mining.
The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) has recently completed a three year study on the barriers and challenges faced by women in the Canadian mining sector. Coutrnay’s presentation will provide an overview of the current labour market demographics and trends within the national and regional mining sector and a review of the key findings from the study on gender diversity. We will discuss how things have changed since ‘Ramp-up – A Study on the Status of Women in Canada’s Mining and Exploration Sector’ (WIM and MiHR’s study on the status of women in the Canadian mining sector) and review industry actions that are addressing the gendered barriers that remain.
We hope you are able to join us!
